On June 15, 1989, Nirvana issued their debut disc 'Bleach. Blew 2. Nirvanas 1989 debut album lived almost exclusively in the underground Seattle circuit until it was plucked out of obscurity following Nirvanas breakthrough in 1991. Bleach originally sold a mere 30,000 copies, but following the enormous success of the band's second album, Nevermind 1991, fans discovered Nirvana's obscure debut. Nice heavy instrumentals. It has since been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, making it one of only two albums released on Sub Pop to have received platinum certification. After the release of its debut single Love Buzz on Sub Pop in November 1988, Nirvana practiced for two to three weeks in preparation for recording a full-length album. Initially going with the working title Too Many Humans , Nirvana eventually settled on Bleach as the moniker for the disc after Cobain spotted an AIDS prevention poster advising heroin addicts to bleach their works before using.
