Artist's Statement by John Dwyer from Castle Face order page (as formatted):
THIS 12" SINGLE WAS CULLED FROM SOME LONGER JAMS DURING THE ORC SESSIONS (ONE OF WHICH IS A COVER OF A MOST EXCELLENT OLD SCHOOL SWEDISH BAND CALLED "TRÄD GRÄS OCH STENAR") AND WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE THRU OUR WEBSITE.
THIS ONE IS FOR OUR FANS, ITS A YEAR END HOLIDAY CELEBRATION SLAB OF WAX MEANT TO PUT AWAY OUR OLD 2017 EGO AND PUSH FORWARD INTO 2018, A YEAR WHERE WE ALL DO BETTER BY OURSELVES, BY OTHERS AND BY THE WORLD.
ITS BEEN A HEAVY ONE, NO DOUBT, BUT THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE AND STRENGTH. SO SIT BACK AND FEAR NOT, YOU WON'T HAVE TO GET UP AGAIN TO FLIP IT FOR LIKE...11 MINUTES.
TAKE A BREATH AND LOOK FORWARD.

Oh Sees are an American rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1997, now based in Los Angeles, California. The band currently consists of primary songwriter and core member John Dwyer vocals, guitar, alongside Tim Hellman bass, Dan Rincon drums, Paul Quattrone drums and Tomas Dolas keyboards. On Side A is a sprawling, groovy impressionistic jam called Dead Medic and on the flip side is a cover of a track by Swedish band Träd, Gräs & Stenar. Listen to both of them below. Heres a message from the band that accompanied the 12 announcement: THIS 12 SINGLE WAS CULLED FROM SOME LONGER JAMS DURING THE ORC SESSIONS. Take a breath and look forward. Lovely packaging, but one of the most unfocused and inessential Oh Sees releases. Too bad, as they've otherwise been on quite a roll lately.

Amazing 12". Picked up the blue vinyl version with the foil-stamped sleeve as it was the only version available at the time (I prefer black vinyl), really simple sleeve design but really effective. Side A is an agitated, wiry, edgy, experimental jam. Took me a few listens to dig it properly but dig it I very much do. Very Can-like. Side B is a spaced out mellow jam, really cool bluesy guitar echoing around the place, could go on forever and I'd still be listening. Really glad I snapped one up after procrastinating back and forth on whether to pay so much for a two track record when it first went on sale. It's worth it, go get one.(as an aside - why do Castle Face charge so much for their records and postage? I live in the UK and even ordering from their EU site the postage costs a lot more than it should, especially in comparison to many other labels/shops. Kind of sucks).

I've given up buying from the CF website not just because of the high shipping costs, these are shipped from Wales yet they charge around £8!. But also since they dropped accepting £'s as payment we get lumbered with having to pay in euros + VAT....makes it way too much all round. I can live without the special colours to be honest, just plain black from local indie store is fine by me from now on.

100% agree, shipments in the European Union are very very expensive

JPD: We're releasing an EP of 20 minutes of random noodling. Me: Meh. JPD: It's on electric blue vinyl. Me: Sold!

Mine is VERY dished...I mean, if it didn't have a hole in the center I could eat cereal out of it! Otherwise it sounds great. I've left it clamped on the turntable for several days...hopefully this will help considering CF's new no return or exchange policy.

Mine arrived looking and sounding just about perfect. Sucks that so many copies were apparently flawed, tho :(
TheJonnyTest
Same here... still sounds awesome tho! It compliments ORC perfectly.

I got mine in the mail today. Both tracks are instrumentals that are focused around a repetitive rhythm provided by drums. It actually reminds me of some of Can's music (but everything reminds me of Can). If I had to liken it to some of their other stuff, I'd say the songs fall in the same vein as the jam at the end of 'Keys to the Castle' and the jam from 'Raw Optics' from Orc. Overall, not bad but not my favorite singles/EP from them. Not sure I'd pay what the scalpers are already asking for it.
