Awake is the debut album by American acoustic rock musician, John Vesely, under the pseudonym Secondhand Serenade. The album was originally released as a demo, in 2005. In late 2006, Secondhand Serenade signed to label Glassnote Records and re-released the album on January 31, 2007. In early 2007, the album was reissued by Glassnote Records with an additional two songs. It was released on February 6 and gave Vesely his first chartings, debuting at 16 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart. Secondhand Serenade. Awake isn't necessarily a bad album, but the lack of original inspiration on songs like Vulnerable and Maybe is pretty startling. Obviously, even the song titles are second-hand. Even the first-time listener should be able to pinpoint exactly at which second Vesely's double-tracked high harmony voice is going to come in, for example, or when the tune will modulate upward for an extra soupçon of yearning and strain. He formed a huge fanbase online and slowly worked his way up the charts catching the attention of record labels. His voice and lyrics are unique in his own way. Now Secondhand Serenade is prob one of my favorite bands. With his cathcy tunes and the wide range he has with his voice, it sets a situation for great music.
